When the Jaguars were named as the 30th franchise in 1993, the Weaver's vision was to give back to the community in a substantive manner. The Foundation was announced on September 14, 1994, and awarded its first grants in March of 1995, well before the team played its first game.
Through a fair and objective evaluation process, grants are allocated to serve the needs of economically and socially disadvantaged youth throughout Northeast Florida . In the first grant cycle of 2009, the Foundation awarded $712,750 to 24 local nonprofit agencies. Since its first grants were awarded in 1995, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling more than $12.5 million to worthy programs in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties to assist disadvantaged youth and their families. This level of giving is among the top few in professional sports.
