Mock Draft/Pro Day tracker: Overwhelming majority

Jaguars.com 2017 Mock Draft/Pro Day tracker v12.0: Overwhelming majority of analysts now project Louisiana State running back Leonard Fournette to the Jaguars at No. 4 overall in ’17 draft

JACKSONVILLE – An overwhelming majority has been reached at No. 4. At last.

But that doesn’t mean a consensus – at least not quite.

When it comes how the NFL’s most prominent draft analysts view the Jaguars’ selection at No. 4 overall, that’s sort of where things stand two days removed from the 2017 NFL Draft:

There is much agreement among experts that the Jaguars will select Louisiana State running back Leonard Fournette at the spot, thereby giving quarterback Blake Bortles the offensive skill-position help so many analysts believe he needs.

But a lot of agreement doesn’t mean total agreement. While more analysts than not project Fournette to the Jaguars, some analysts still see the Jaguars going defense with the selection.

As far as the recent rumors about the team being interested in a quarterback, no analyst whose mock is included in this week’s jaguars.com mock draft/Pro Day tracker – the last tracker before the draft begins Thursday – actually projected quarterback to the Jaguars at No. 4.

But one – NFL Media analyst Charley Casserly – did project Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson to the Jaguars at No. 12 while projecting the Jaguars to trade back to the spot with Cleveland.

“Blake Bortles is in the last year of his rookie deal,” Casserly wrote. “Tom Coughlin will love Watson's leadership.”

Of 15 respected analysts releasing mock drafts since the last jaguars.com mock draft tracker, nine projected Fournette to the Jaguars: Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, Peter King of MMQB, Lance Zierlein of NFL Media, Rob Rang of The Sports Xchange/CBSSports.com, Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, Jared Dubin of CBS Sports, Will Brinson of CBS Sports and Josh Norris of Rotoworld.

“I’d expect Jacksonville to be in the market to trade back on Thursday, but if it keeps the pick I do believe the Fournette talk is real,” Schrager wrote.

“The Jaguars took care of so many needs in free agency,” Norris wrote. “Perhaps they want to add a rangy free safety, or another offensive lineman, or a tight end, but signs and actions point to a powerful running back who can help build the identity of the offense,”

Other analysts were split, with Chris Burke of SI.com projecting Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas to the Jaguars at No. 4, while former Jaguars running back and current NFL Media analyst Maurice Jones-Drew projecting Alabama tight end O.J. Howard there.

“The Jags could use a dominant offensive weapon that can go over the middle,” Jones-Drew wrote. “Howard will be a big target for Blake Bortles. If the Jags can't trade out, he's their guy.”
