Community Scholars
In 1998, the Jaguars Foundation established what is now a $500,000 scholarship fund in partnership with the University of North Florida. The Community Scholars program is a novel scholarship program that involves UNF Honors students mentoring selected high school students who have participated in the Jaguars Foundation Honor Rows program.
The scholarship candidate must be nominated by his/her youth agency, currently a sophomore or junior in high school, committed to a drug-free lifestyle, and has demonstrated a commitment to public service. Scholarship recipients receive full tuition for up to four years, as well as mentorship support before and during their college experience. This increases their chances for lasting academic, volunteer, and professional success.

The mentoring component of the program assists scholars to:
- make a successful transition into college;
- develop the academic and social skills necessary for higher education;
- research and participate in service learning projects; and
- foster on-going relationships with their mentor and their scholar peers.
