Jaguars make roster moves

Posted Dec 2, 2011

Jaguars sign Irvin, Robiskie to IR, and add Martin to practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed second-year defensive tackle Corvey Irvin to the active roster from the practice squad and placed wide receiver Brian Robiskie on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.  The club added third-year wide receiver Charly Martin to the practice squad.

Irvin, 6-3, 302, spent the last six weeks on the Jaguars practice squad after signing on Oct. 18. He was a third-round draft pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2009 and spent his entire rookie season on injured reserve after suffering a torn MCL in his right knee in the preseason finale.  He spent the first 13 weeks of 2010 on the Panthers practice squad before being signed to the active roster.  He was signed to Detroit’s practice squad on Sept. 5, 2011 and was waived on Oct. 12.

A native of Augusta, Georgia, Irvin played two seasons at Georgia after transferring from Georgia Military College.  He played in 26 games with 10 starts for the Bulldogs and totaled 11 tackles for loss and three sacks.

Martin, 6-1, 212, played in eight games the last two seasons for Carolina.  He spent the 2011 preseason with the Panthers before being waived on Sept. 3. He saw action in seven games in 2009 after being signed to the active roster from the practice squad and had one reception for six yards.  Martin played in one game in 2010 before being placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.  He was originally signed as a rookie free agent by San Diego in 2009.

The Farmington, New Mexico native played collegiately at West Texas A&M.  He set school records with 244 receptions for 4,108 yards and 44 touchdowns.  As a senior, he led Division II with 95 receptions for 1,867 yards and 22 touchdowns.
