NFL Power Rankings: Chiefs stay on top again

Posted Oct 29, 2013

Jaguars.com Senior Writer John Oehser ranks the 32 NFL teams before Week 9.

JACKSONVILLE – Here are the jaguars.com pre-Week 9 2013 power rankings. And we all know how important these are:

1. Kansas City Chiefs (8-0) | 1 | Not always winning big; just winning

2. Seattle Seahawks (7-1) | 2 | The offensive line eventually will be an issue

3. Indianapolis Colts (5-2) | 3 | Could clinch the division pretty early

4. Denver Broncos (7-1) | 4 | Looking a bit shaky in recent weeks.

5. New Orleans Saints (6-1) | 5 | Defense has gotten better enough to help offense

6. San Francisco 49ers (6-2) | 6 | This team is starting to look dominant

7. Cincinnati Bengals (6-2) | 7 | It has been a long time since Cincy ran away with a division

8. New England Patriots (6-2) | 8 | Not dominant, but they’ll be there at end

9. Green Bay Packers (5-2) | 9 | Still atop a tough NFC North

10. Detroit Lions (4-3) | 11 | Megatron inspires awe

11. Dallas Cowboys (4-4) | 10 | Up and down again may be enough to win NFC East

12. Chicago Bears (4-3) | 13 | Moved up with impressive bye-week showing

13. San Diego Chargers (4-3) | 15 | Another team with impressive bye-week showing

14. Carolina Panthers (4-3) | 18 | Quietly putting together impressive first half of season

15. Baltimore Ravens (3-4) | 16 | Stayed steady with solid bye-week showing

16. Miami Dolphins (3-4) | 12 | This is turning into a freefall

17. New York Jets (4-4) | 14 | Oof

18. Arizona Cardinals (4-4) | 24 | Not good enough to contend in NFC West, but a playoff spot?

19. Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) | 17 | Offensive woes not what people expected

20. Buffalo Bills (3-5) | 19 | Have looked good at times; record doesn’t reflect that

21. Tennessee Titans (3-4) | 21 | Still within range of Colts…for now

22. St. Louis Rams (3-5) | 20 | Nearly pulled one of upsets of the season Monday

23. Atlanta Falcons (2-5) | 22 | Season on verge of being officially lost

24. Cleveland Browns (3-5) | 23| Brief surge seems to be fading fast

25. Oakland Raiders (3-4) | 28 | Uplifting victory over Pittsburgh Sunday

26. Washington Redskins (2-5) | 25 | Enough to excite; not enough to win

27. Houston Texans (2-5) | 26 | May need more than a week off to get things right

28. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-5) | 27 | Resurgence ends in Oakland

29. New York Giants (2-6) | 29 | Is there enough time for Giants to back in division race?

30. Minnesota Vikings (1-6) | 28 | Last season’s playoffs seem like a long time ago

31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) | 31 | A whole lot wrong in that part of Florida, too

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-8) | 32 | At last, the bye
