NFL Power Rankings: New team at the top

Posted Oct 22, 2013

Jaguars.com Senior Writer John Oehser ranks the 32 NFL teams before Week 8.

JACKSONVILLE – Here are the jaguars.com pre-Week 8 2013 power rankings. And we all know how important these are:

1. Kansas City Chiefs (7-0) | 2 | Headed for historic turnaround

2. Seattle Seahawks (6-1) | 3 | As Wilson gets better, Super Bowl hopes do, too

3. Indianapolis Colts (5-2) | 6 | Their wins are as good as any team’s in the NFL

4. Denver Broncos (6-1) | 1 | Ryan Clady’s injury looming large. Very large

5. New Orleans Saints (5-1) | 5 | Flip a coin for NFC’s best team: Saints or Seahawks?

6. San Francisco 49ers (5-2) | 7 | Starting to look like who we thought they were

7. Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) | 8 | Quietly, piling up important early victories

8. New England Patriots (5-2) | 4 | Too early to say something’s really wrong -- yet

9. Green Bay Packers (4-2) | 9 | Suddenly looking very good in the NFC North

10. Dallas Cowboys (3-3) | 13 | Up again, down again, up again, down . . .

11. Detroit Lions (4-3) | 10 | They feel close to being a lot better

12. Miami Dolphins (3-3) | 11 | Better than this; they need to play like it

13. Chicago Bears (4-3) | 12 | No Cutler = Big Trouble

14. New York Jets (4-3) | 20 | League’s most surprising .500-plus team

15. San Diego Chargers (4-3) | 16 | Inching back into the playoff picture

16. Baltimore Ravens (3-4) | 14 | Have let some winnable ones get away

17. Philadelphia Eagles (3-4) | 15| Offense hasn’t changed how game is played

18. Carolina Panthers (3-3) | 24 | Showing signs of life

19. Buffalo Bills (3-4) | 25 | A lot closer than record indicates

20. St. Louis Rams (3-4) | 17 | Injury to Bradford could make road tougher

21. Tennessee Titans (3-4) | 18 | Outmanned at home by 49ers on Sunday

22. Atlanta Falcons (2-4) | 21 | Got a much-needed victory at Tampa Sunday

23. Cleveland Browns (3-4) | 19 | Still have to like what Browns have done early

24. Arizona Cardinals (3-4) | 22 | Better than expected, but good enough to make a push?

25. Washington Redskins (1-4) | 27 | Huge victory Sunday, but a long way to go

26. Houston Texans (2-5) | 23 | Stunning fall continues

27. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4) | 29 | Signs of life the last two weeks

28. Oakland Raiders (2-4) | 26 | Big penalty in these rankings for not winning in off week

29. New York Giants (1-6) | 31 | Victory over Vikings leaves two winless teams

30. Minnesota Vikings (1-5) | 28 | Fall not as shocking as Texans, but still significant

31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-6) | 30 | Tough season getting all that much tougher

32. Jacksonville Jaguars (0-7) | 32 | Disappointing effort Sunday
