Bears vs. Jaguars: Game Notes

Posted Oct 7, 2012

A look inside the numbers from today's Bears vs. Jaguars match-up.

Jaguars offensive line coach provides special day for family

Jaguars offensive line coach Andy Heck and his wife, Jennifer, hosted Jeff Holdsworth and his family today at EverBank Field in conjunction with the Memories for Kids Foundation (www.memoriesforkids.org).  The mission of the Foundation is to create lifelong memories for children of parents with terminal cancer.

Holdsworth, a firefighter, has been battling melanoma since his diagnosis in 2008 and the cancer has continued to progress.  He was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma.  He and his wife, Cassie, have four children and reside in Omaha, Nebraska.  The children are Jacob (13), Paige (11), Ryan (9) and Drew (7).

The Hecks provided six club seats and pregame field passes to the family.  Following the game, the family received a private tour of the stadium from Andy Heck and also a private meeting with Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, quarterback Blaine Gabbert, tight end Zach Potter and center Brad Meester.

Scobee ties franchise record

Josh Scobee scored the Jaguars only points on a 31-yard field goal in the second quarter.  The field goal was Scobee’s 175th of his career, tying Mike Hollis for the most in franchise history.  He extended his streak of consecutive field goals made to 14, tied for the fifth-longest streak in team history.  Hollis holds the franchise record with 20 straight field goals made.

Derek Cox gets first pick of the season

Fourth-year cornerback Derek Cox intercepted Jay Cutler on the Bears first offensive possession on a pass intended for Brandon Marshall.  It marked Cox’s ninth career interception and first since Dec. 26, 2010 against Washington.  He has four interceptions in the last five games against NFC opponents.  It was the first interception by a defensive back for the Jaguars through five games.

Jones-Drew eclipses 12,000 career all-purpose yards

Maurice Jones-Drew finished with 59 yards from scrimmage (56 rushing, 3 receiving) and eclipsed 12,000 all-purpose yards for his career.   Jones-Drew joined Fred Taylor (13,632) and Jimmy Smith (12,875) as the only players in team history to accomplish the feat.

Jaguars record first sack since season-opener

Defensive end Austen Lane sacked Jay Cutler for a four-yard loss in the third quarter, his second career sack.  It marked the Jaguars’ first sack since the season-opener at Minnesota.

  • Rookie defensive end Ryan Davis made his NFL debut after being promoted from the practice squad earlier this week.
  • Defensive tackle C.J. Mosley started his 11th career game while defensive end Austen Lane made his first start of the season and 11th of his career.
  • The Bears’ 17-play drive to start the second half tied for the longest by a Jaguars opponent through five games (17 plays, week two vs. Houston).
  • Today marked the first game of Terrance Knighton’s career that he played in without starting.
  • The Jaguars three points are the fewest scored in a home game since October 18, 2010 vs. Tennessee (30-3).
  • Quarterback Blaine Gabbert finished 17 of 33 passing for 142 yards with two interceptions for a 37.7 passer rating.
  • The Jaguars had two interceptions returned for touchdowns which tied a franchise record by an opponent.  It marked the third time in team history (12/17/06 at Tennessee; Nov. 22, 1998 at Pittsburgh) an opponent has scored twice on interception returns.
  • The Bears outscored the Jaguars 38-0 in the second half, tied for the most points scored by an opponent in the second half in team history (38, 12/20/98 at Minnesota).
  • The Bears scored on all four possessions in the second half.
