Community Tuesday: Jones-Drew providing meals

JACKSONVILLE – This is a week to give thanks, and to give back.

Maurice Jones-Drew was among several Jaguars players doing just that this week, as the three-time Pro Bowl running back on Monday gave 62 Thanksgiving Meals to families in need through the Maurice Jones-Drew Foundation and the Pepsi Bottling Company.

“There are some people who aren’t as fortunate as us,” Jones-Drew said at the event. “This is about bringing families together, and letting them go and just embrace the holidays.”

Jones-Drew and backfield mates Will Ta’ufo’ou and Jordan Todman handed out the turkeys at EverBank Field Monday evening.

“We try to be the best we can be as players, and as people,” Jones-Drew said. “If you do little things like this, if it brings a smile to a child’s face, or helps them out somewhat, that’s what we’re here for. Obviously, playing football is something we’ve been blessed with the talent to do.

“I just want to make sure people understand that even though we do play football we care about the community.”

Other Jaguars players were out in the community Tuesday morning. Wide receiver Cecil Shorts III, guard Will Rackley, wide receiver Mike Brown and guard Jacques McClendon also purchased 20 Thanksgiving meals for area families in need.
