Jaguars acquire rookie LB John Lotulelei off waivers from Seattle Seahawks

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars made another roster move Thursday.

This time, the team addressed defense and special teams with the acquisition of rookie linebacker John Lotulelei off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

Lotulelei (5-feet-11, 233 pounds), who played collegiately at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, made the Seahawks’ regular-season roster as an undrafted free agent. He played in two of the Seahawks’ first four games, registering two games in the Seahawks’ victory over Jacksonville in Week Two.

Lotulelei is the cousin of Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotulelei, a first-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft from Utah.

He played in 25 games with 17 starts at UNLV, registering 180 tackles (83 solo), with 4.5 tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection as a senior, starting all 13 games and recording 120 tackles.  He was also named the UNLV Defensive Most Valuable Player and was the recipient of the Bill “Wildcat” Morris Most Inspirational Award.

He was released by Seattle Wednesday when the Seahawks signed quarterback B.J. Daniels.

The Jaguars released first-year linebacker Kyle Knox on Thursday.
