Jaguars add two players to practice squad

Posted Sep 1, 2014

Jacksonville Jaguars now have nine players on their practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed two players to their practice squad today in first-year cornerback Peyton Thompson and rookie running back Henry Josey.  The Jaguars have one remaining spot on their practice squad.

Thompson and Josie join offensive tackle Cody Booth, defensive tackle DeAndre Coleman, safety Craig Loston, quarterback Stephen Morris, wide receiver Kerry Taylor, linebacker Marcus Whitfield and wide receiver Tony Washington on the club’s practice squad.

Thompson, 5-10, 180, was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Atlanta in 2012 where he spent the entire season on the club’s practice squad.   He spent parts of the 2013 season with the Washington Redskins on the club’s practice squad.  He was signed by Chicago on August 18, 2014 and waived on August 24.

Thompson was a four-year letterman at San Jose State where he concluded his career with 186 tackles (125 solo), 10.5 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, one sack, two forced fumbles and 22 passes defensed.  He played in all 13 games with 11 starts as a senior and shared the team lead with 10 passes defensed and ranked second with two interceptions.  The Abilene, Texas native attended Granite Bay High School in California where he lettered in football and track. He set a school record in the 400-yard dash (48.2 seconds).

Josey, 5-8, 194, was signed by Philadelphia as a rookie free agent in 2014 and ranked second in the NFL during the preseason with 225 yards on 34 carries including 122 yards in the preseason finale against the New York Jets.  The former Missouri standout became only the second player in school history with two 1,000-yard rushing seasons.  In 14 starts in 2013, he totaled 1,166 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns before declaring for the NFL Draft as a junior.  He was named the Cotton Bowl’s Offensive Player of the Game after rushing for 92 yards and three touchdowns.

The Angleton, Texas native suffered a knee injury late in the 2011 season and missed the entire 2012 campaign.  He totaled 1,168 yards and nine touchdowns in 2011.  He was a two-standout at Angleton High School in Texas, earning all-district honors as a running back and defensive back as a senior in 2009.
