Jaguars awarded linebacker Nate Stupar off waivers from 49ers, waive offensive tackle DeMarcus Love.

The Jacksonville Jaguars today were awarded first-year linebacker Nate Stupar off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers.   Third-year offensive tackle DeMarcus Love was waived from the roster.

Stupar, 6-2, 240, was a seventh-round draft pick of Oakland in 2012.  He spent time on the practice squad for the Raiders, Philadelphia and San Francisco as a rookie.  He made the 49ers opening day roster in 2013 and played in five games and totaled five special teams tackles.

Stupar was a four-year letterman at Penn State where he played in 52 games and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.  He started nine of 13 games as a senior and ranked third on the team with 80 tackles.  Stupar played in every game as a junior, making seven starts, and tallied 73 tackles.

A native of State College, Pa., Stupar attended State College High School.  He was named Pennsylvania’s Defensive Player of the Year as a senior after totaling 60 tackles and eight sacks along with eight touchdowns as a tight end.  He also started two seasons in basketball and lacrosse.  His uncle, Jeff Hostetler, is a retired NFL quarterback and his brother, Jonathan, played tight end for Buffalo from 2009-10.
