Jaguars make roster moves

Posted Dec 24, 2012

Jaguars activate WR Jackson, OL Asper, & TE Reisner, and place WR Shorts, RB Jennings, & FB Jones on IR.

The Jacksonville Jaguars today activated rookie wide receiver Jerrell Jackson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and were awarded rookie offensive lineman Mark Asper and first-year tight end Allen Reisner off waivers from Minnesota.  Wide receiver Cecil Shorts (head), running back Rashad Jennings (shoulder) and linebacker Greg Jones (leg) were placed on injured reserve.

Jackson, 6-0, 192, spent the preseason with Houston before he was waived on final cuts.  He was signed to the Jaguars’ practice squad on Dec. 14.  He was a two-year starter at Missouri where he played in 49 games with 24 starts.  Jackson finished his college career with 113 receptions for 1,434 yards and six touchdowns.  In 2010 he played with Jaguars quarterback Blaine Gabbert and produced a career-high 50 catches for 656 yards.  The Houston native was a three-sport standout at Davis High School where he played wide receiver and defensive back.

Asper, 6-7, 325, was a sixth-round pick of Buffalo in 2012 and spent the preseason with the Bills before he was waived on final cuts.  He was claimed off waivers by Minnesota where he spent 16 weeks on the active roster but did not play in a game.

A native of Rexburg, Idaho, Asper played in 47 games with 36 starts at Oregon.  He was voted the team’s most outstanding offensive lineman as a senior where he started 13 games at right guard and one at right tackle.   He redshirted in 2007 after being away from college football to serve a two-year religious commitment.  He was an all-state selection at Idaho Falls High School where he lettered in football and basketball.  He and his wife, Michelle, have two daughters.

Reisner, 6-3, 255, entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Vikings in 2011 where he spent the past two seasons.  He has played in 10 games and has two receptions for 18 yards.  He was a four-year letterman at Iowa where he hauled in 42 receptions for 460 yards and two touchdowns as a senior.  He attended Marion High School in Marian, Iowa where he set the school record for career touchdowns.
