Jaguars make roster moves

Posted Jun 19, 2014

The Jacksonville Jaguars add P/K Kasey Redfern, WR Slaughter and LS Hughlett.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed three rookies in punter/kicker Kasey Redfern, wide receiver Nathan Slaughter and long snapper Charley Hughlett, the club announced today.  Veteran defensive end Jason Babin was released from the roster and wide receivers Kevin Smith and Brandon Wimberly were waived.

Redfern, Slaughter and Hughlett participated in the club’s mandatory minicamp this week on a tryout basis.  Redfern, 6-2, 215, was a four-year letterman at Wofford where he served as a punter and kicker.  He made 11 of 19 field goals in his final two seasons including a school-record 53-yarder as a junior.  He attended Ragsdale High School in Jamestown, North Carolina where he was a two-time all-conference selection.

Slaughter, 5-9, 184, played in 47 games with 43 starts at West Texas A&M.  He finished his career with 174 receptions for 1,978 yards and 14 touchdowns.  As a senior, he totaled 415 yards on 41 catches for three touchdowns and also had three touchdowns on kickoff returns.  A native of Lubbock, Texas, he attended Lubbock High School where he saw action at cornerback, free safety, wide receiver and running back.  Slaughter also lettered in track and basketball.

Hughlett, 6-4, 251, was a teammate of Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles and running back Storm Johnson at Central Florida.  The Tampa native was an All-Conference USA second-team selection as a senior, handling long snapping duties on punts, field goals and PATs.  He attended Hillsborough High School where he was a four-year letterman at center and tight end.
