The Jacksonville Jaguars signed 2012 sixth-round draft pick Mike Harris to a contract today. Harris was the 176th overall selection in the 2012 NFL Draft and is the second of the Jaguars’ six draft picks to sign a contract. Length and terms of the contract are undisclosed.

Harris, a 5-10, 184-pound cornerback, played his final two college seasons at Florida State. In his senior year for the Seminoles, Harris finished second on the team with 58 tackles (43 solo). He played in all 13 games as part of a three-man rotation in the defensive backfield, including time at nickel back.

Harris is the third Florida State player drafted by the Jaguars, joining defensive lineman Larry Smith (1999) and fullback Greg Jones (2004). A native of Miami, Florida, Harris spent his first two collegiate seasons at El Camino College (Torrance, Calif.).

In addition, the Jaguars re-signed rookie free agent cornerback and return specialist Dontrell Johnson to a contract. Johnson originally signed a contract with the Jaguars on May 3 and was waived on May 14 after the signing of kicker Brandon Coutu.

Johnson played two seasons at Murray State (Ky.) as a cornerback and return specialist, earning second-team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors both years. Johnson battled injuries during his senior season of 2011 but still finished with a conference-best 12 passes defended in addition to a punt return average of 16.2 yards. In his junior season of 2010, Johnson led the FCS in punt return yardage average (22.8).

Johnson played two seasons at Garden City Community College (Kan.) before transferring to Murray State. He is a native of Moultrie, Georgia.

To make room for Johnson on the 90-man roster, the Jaguars waived fourth-year cornerback Morgan Trent. Trent was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round of the 2009 draft out of Michigan. During the 2011 season Trent played in six games with the Bengals, one game with the Indianapolis Colts and five games with Jacksonville after being waived twice during the season.
