Posted Jul 25, 2013

Jacksonville Jaguars sign rookie K Adam Yates and rookie WR Cole McKenzie as veterans report for 2013 training camp.

JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars continue to make moves as training camp approaches.

Adam Yates, a kicker from South Carolina, and Cole McKenzie – a wide receiver from Southern Oregon – each signed with the Jaguars Thursday, the same day the team released rookie safety Chris Banjo and rookie tight end Kyler Reed.

The moves came as veterans reported to EverBank Field Thursday, with 2013 Jaguars Training Camp scheduled to begin at the Florida Blue Health and Wellness Practice Fields Friday morning.

McKenzie (6-feet-2, 190 pounds), a rookie from Southern Oregon, originally signed with the Jaguars as a rookie free agent shortly after the 2013 NFL Draft in late April, then was waived in mid-May before participating in a practice. He was unable to attend the early part of the offseason program because Southern Oregon was still in class.

McKenzie earned NAIA All-American honors last season by setting Southern Oregon-records with 1,661 yards and 18 touchdowns receiving. He also set a Southern Oregon single-game record with 18 receptions for 265 yards in a playoff loss to Morningside.

Yates (6-1, 196) won the South Carolina kicking job as a senior last season, making 11 of 17 field goals and converting 49 of 49 extra points.

The Jaguars had signed Reed and Banjo as rookie free agents following the April draft, which Banjo earning a spot on the 90-man roster as a tryout player in a rookie minicamp a week after the draft.

The Jaguars’ roster now stands at 90 entering training camp.
