Marks re-signs with Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars re-sign defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks to long-term deal.

JACKSONVILLE – Sen’Derrick Marks is now a part of the Jaguars’ core.

Marks on Friday agreed to and signed a long-term deal to remain with the Jaguars. The team did not disclose terms or length, but reports were that it is a four-year deal worth up to $22 million.

Marks, a five-year veteran, joined the team as an unrestricted free agent last offseason. He signed a one-year deal at the time.

Marks, a second-round selection out of Auburn by the Tennessee Titans in the 2009 NFL Draft, signed the deal at the time believing he was a good fit for the scheme being run by Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley, defensive coordinator Bob Babich and defensive line coach Todd Wash.

The Jaguars last offseason signed several veterans to short-term contracts with the idea that some could develop and be part of the team’s core moving forward under Bradley and General Manager Dave Caldwell, each of whom were in their first season with the team.

Marks quickly did just that, and was perhaps the team’s best defensive lineman this season.

He started every game, playing 890 snaps in the first 15 games – the most of any Jaguars defensive lineman and the fifth-most of any defensive player on the team. He had the second-highest grade on the defense according to Pro Football Focus, and was consistently effective as an interior pass rusher, registering four sacks, 11 quarterback hits and 24 hurries. He also batted down a team high seven passes.
