JACKSONVILLE – Jalen Ramsey is expected to be ready by late July.

That was the major news on Day 2 of Jaguars 2016 organized team activities, with the team announcing that the rookie cornerback is expected to be ready to participate when training camp begins.

Ramsey, the No. 5 overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft, underwent successful surgery Tuesday after sustaining what the team called a "small tear" in his right meniscus during Phase 2 of the Jaguars' offseason program.

"It sounds like come training camp he should be ready to go full go," Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley said Tuesday.

Bradley learned of Ramsey's successful surgery – and his official prognosis – from General Manager David Caldwell shortly after the Jaguars' OTA practice Tuesday.

"That's great news," Bradley said. "That's outstanding. That's what we had hoped for. We knew all of the scenarios, but going back and looking how he handled it: very maturely. I'm really excited for him."

Bradley said Ramsey had been picking up the defense quickly early in the offseason program. He had worked with the team since a little more than a week following the April 28-30 NFL Draft. Bradley said the team likely will continue to work Ramsey mostly at outside corner upon his return.

"That's what we'd like to do," Ramsey said. "We're going to make sure we don't put too much on his plate, but if he can handle it we'll teach him both [nickel corner and outside]."

Also on Tuesday, the Jaguars announced that right tackle Jermey Parnell sustained a non-displaced fracture in his hand Monday and will continue to participate in some drills in the rest of OTAs.

OTAs began Monday and will continue through early June with the offseason program concluding with a three-day mandatory minicamp June 14-16.
