Jacksonville Jaguars HC Gus Bradley on a home game against San Diego a day before London trip: “You mature as a team by your ability to handle distractions.”

JACKSONVILLE – The potential for distraction is real.

But while that’s true this week, as Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley sees it, it’s pretty much the case every week in the NFL – home or away, in tough times and good.

So, is there a lot going on this week? Is something happening next week?

Are there outside storylines?

Yes, yes and yes, but Bradley said none of that matters as the Jaguars prepare to play their first home game in three weeks.

“I think you mature as a team by your ability to handle distractions, and we have a new set of them this week,” Bradley said as the Jaguars (0-6) prepared to play the San Diego Chargers (3-3) at EverBank Field Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Jaguars have played four of their first six games on the road this season, with all four being west of the Mississippi River – at Oakland, at Seattle, at St. Louis and at Denver. They return home Sunday to play a team with an equally difficult travel situation, with San Diego traveling three time zones east after playing a home game on Monday night last week.

The Jaguars also have the added issue of playing the San Francisco 49ers in London next Sunday. The team is scheduled to leave Monday afternoon, with a normal practice routine planned for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before Sunday’s game at Wembley Stadium.

“Hopefully they can push those things aside,” Bradley said. “They’re doing a good job of it now but we’ll see on Sunday….  I would hope as a professional team we can stay above that.”

The Jaguars also enter the weekend with several unknown injury situations, particularly at the wide receiver position.

Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts III are listed as questionable entering the weekend, while rookie Ace Sanders and veteran Stephen Burton have been ruled out because of concussions. Bradley said on Friday he expects Blackmon (groin/hamstring) to play against San Diego, while Shorts (SC joint/shoulder) likely will be a game-time decision.

Safety Johnathan Cyprien (calf) also likely will be a game-time decision, while cornerback Dwayne Gratz (ankle) is expected to have a chance to play for the first time since the regular-season opener.

Tight end Marcedes Lewis (calf) also is expected to play after missing five of the first six games with a calf injury.
