Jacksonville City Council provides final approval for EverBank Field enhancements

Posted Nov 12, 2013

The Jacksonville City Council this evening approved funding for EverBank Field enhancements including new video scoreboards with 14-2 vote.

The Jacksonville City Council this evening approved funding for EverBank Field enhancements including new video scoreboards. The City Council voted 14-2 to provide the final approval necessary for the project to move forward.

“We are very appreciative of the support of City Council,” Lamping said. “A project like this requires vision and forward thinking, and that is what has been demonstrated by the many people involved. I want to especially thank Mayor Brown and his staff for their support and cooperation. Our partners at the Gator Bowl Association have also been an important part of this process. This has really been a collaborative effort that shows what can be accomplished when public and private entities work together.”

Construction for the project is scheduled to begin in January, with an expected completion date in July. The feature of the improvements will be new video scoreboards at the north and south ends of the stadium that will be the largest of their kind in the world, as well as a new state-of-the-art scoreboard control room.

A new platform area in the north end zone with unique food and beverage offerings, interactive activities and North Florida-themed imagery and water features will give the stadium a look and feel that is distinctly Jacksonville.

The stadium enhancements are budgeted to cost $63 million. The City of Jacksonville will pay $43 million, and Jaguars owner Shad Khan has committed to pay the remaining $20 million.
