Jaguars Foundation to recognize FSCJ students with scholarships

The Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation presents a gift of $20,000 to the Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation.

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation continued its mission of encouraging scholastic achievement in the community by presenting a gift of $20,000 to the Florida State College at Jacksonville Foundation at the quarterly meeting of the Foundation Board of Directors. The gift will fund scholarships at FSCJ for current and future students that meet certain criteria for consideration.

“Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who came to the United States from Pakistan at the age of 16 to study at the University of Illinois, is a champion of education. Scholarships from the Jaguars Foundation will help students take the next steps needed for their successful futures,” said Jaguars Foundation President Peter Racine. “Scholarships to Florida State College at Jacksonville are particularly important because the school offers a comprehensive array of career choices and for many students is the most economical avenue to obtain a college degree and/or technical certification,” Racine added.

To be eligible for a scholarship through this gift, students must meet certain criteria including maintaining a 2.5 GPA, be working towards an associate’s or bachelor’s degree or program certificate and be a resident of Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau or St. Johns County. In addition, preference will be given to students that have successfully completed the Honor Rows program, a goal-setting program that the Foundation operates in partnership with 40 local nonprofits, or who have provided significant volunteer service with the Jaguars Foundation.

“We are so excited to be able to help the Jaguars Foundation recognize these students that have shown that they have what it takes to be successful in college,” said Maggie Hightower, Interim Executive Director of the FSCJ Foundation. “It’s a real testament to the commitment that the Jaguars have to our community and our college.”
