Jaguars make several roster moves

Posted Dec 23, 2013

Jaguars place Miller and Deaderick on IR; sign Nevis and Love to 53-man roster.

The Jacksonville Jaguars today placed defensive tackle Brandon Deaderick (elbow) and defensive tackle Roy Miller (shoulder) on injured reserve and added two defensive tackles to the 53-man roster in third-year pro Drake Nevis and fourth-year pro Kyle Love.  The Jaguars also signed rookie defensive end Will Pericak and first-year wide receiver Jabin Sambrano to the practice squad.

Nevis, 6-1, 310, was a third-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2011 and played in 14 games with three starts for the club over two seasons (2011-12).  He spent the 2013 preseason with the Colts before being waived on final cuts and claimed off waivers by San Diego.  Following his release from the Chargers on Sept. 17, he signed with Dallas where he played in 11 games this season.  Nevis was waived by the Cowboys on Dec. 17.

A native of Marrero, Louisiana, Nevis has played in 25 career games with three starts.  He has registered 48 career tackles (28 solo), one sack, four tackles for loss, three QB hits and one pass defensed. Nevis saw action in nine games for the Colts in 2012 and totaled 16 tackles (seven) and his only career sack.

Nevis was a four-year letterman at Louisiana State where he started 18 of 45 games, totaling 139 tackles (75 solo), 31.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.  He was named a first-team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press following his senior season.  He attended John Ehret High School in Louisiana where he was rated as the eighth-best defensive tackle nationally by Rivals.com.

Love, 6-1, 315, was with the Jaguars in the 2013 preseason before he was waived on final cuts.  He was signed by Kansas City on Nov. 19 and played in one game before being waived on Dec. 3.  He spent three seasons (2010-12) with New England after signing as a rookie free agent in 2010.  Love has played in 42 career games with 25 starts, recording 80 tackles (49 solo), 5.5 sacks, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery.  Of his 25 starts, 24 came in the last two seasons.

In 2012 Love appeared in all 16 games and totaled a career-high 40 tackles (24 solo) and 1.5 sacks.  He saw action in both postseason games for the Patriots.  He registered a career-high three sacks in 2011 while making 13 starts and started all three of the club’s postseason games.

The Fairburn, Georgia native was a four-year letterman at Mississippi State where he started 23 games.  He attended North Clayton High School in College Park, Georgia where he was a four-year starter on the offensive line and also lettered in basketball, baseball and track and field.  Love was born in South Korea, where his father was stationed as an officer in the U.S. Army.
