Stroud brings back memories of '97 game

Tuesday, December 4, 2001
By Vic Ketchman, Jaguars Inside Report Senior Editor
Print Story

The following are notes from the Jaguars' 28-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.

• Rookie defensive tackle Marcus Stroud blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt by Ryan Longwell, marking the first time the Jaguars had blocked a field goal attempt since 9-22-97, when Clyde Simmons saved the night against Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football. Chris Hudson returned Simmons' block for a touchdown.

• Keenan McCardell has caught at least one pass in 44 consecutive games; second-longest in Jaguars history. Jimmy Smith had an 80-game streak end last season.

• Smith's eight receptions for 116 yards marked the 33rd 100-yard game of his career and his fourth this season.

• The Jaguars lost for the sixth time this season when they were either tied or held the lead in the fourth quarter when the opponent began its game-winning scoring drive.

• Packers quarterback Brett Favre's three touchdown passes tied San Francisco's Jeff Garcia for the NFL lead at 24.

• Tony Brackens has registered a sack in six of the seven games he's played this season.

• Chris Hanson's 59-yard punt ties his career long.

• The Jaguars registered their best time of possession (30:53) this season. Their previous best was 30:13 against Tennessee on 9-23, the only other game in which the Jaguars enjoyed a time of possession advantage.

• Green Bay's 37 yards rushing is the third-lowest in team history.

• The Jaguars are 4-1 at home on Monday Night Football and 5-3 overall.

• A combined 22 penalties (13 by Jaguars and nine by Packers) tied for the second-most in Jaguars history.

• The two teams combined for the fewest rushing yards (99) in Jaguars history. The previous low was 135, accomplished twice against Baltimore.

• Mike Hollis booted field goals of 34 and 30 yards, his first three-pointers since 11-4, but he missed in the fourth quarter from 42 yards when his kick struck the left upright.

• Jaguars special teams had a tough night. They were flagged for 12 men on the field during a punt return, they were offside on a kickoff, Elvis Joseph fumbled away a kickoff, and a holding penalty nullified a 65-yard return by Joseph.
