Jaguars linebackers coach Mark Duffner was inducted into the Holy Cross athletic Hall of Fame last month by the Holy Cross varsity club. Duffner was one of five inductees honored. He spent six seasons as head coach of Holy Cross from 1986-91 and compiled a 60-5-1 mark that included two 11-0 seasons. The team won five Patriot League championships, four Lambert Cups and four ECAC Team of the Year awards during Duffner’s tenure. He was named Patriot League coach of the year four times and also took home national coach of the year honors in 1987 and 1991. Duffner is also a member of the William & Mary Hall of Fame.
Pashos among Illinois all-time best
Jaguars offensive tackle Tony Pashos was recently selected as one of the 10 greatest all-time Illinois offensive linemen. Fighting Illini fans were able to vote online from March 24 through April 17 and the players on the ballot earned either first or second-team All-Big Ten honors or played at least four years in the NFL. Pashos started 47 games at right tackle for the Illini from 1999-2002 and was a two-time first-team All-Big Ten honoree.
Mike Peterson camp on Saturday
Linebacker Mike Peterson will host his annual free “Bring It” youth football camp on Saturday, June 28, at Citizens Field in Gainesville. The camp is open for participants from ages 8-17 and registration forms are available on www.mikepeterson54.com. Several Jaguars players are scheduled to attend. Peterson hosted a similar camp in Jacksonville at Ribault High School in early June. The camp is sponsored by the Mike Peterson Foundation.
Pashos to attend benefit gala
Tony Pashos will be attending the 2008 Valley of Dreams Gala to benefit HEAL on Thursday evening at TPC Sawgrass. Pashos serves on the Board of Directors of HEAL and provided numerous items for the live and silent auction. HEAL is a community that is dedicated to medical research, treatment and education of autism, community awareness and, ultimately, prevention of autism spectrum disorders. Jenny McCarthy, actress, best-selling author and mother of Evan, who has recovered from autism, returns as celebrity guest. The attendees will enjoy an evening of dinner, dancing and a live and silent auction, followed by a round of golf on Dye’s Valley Course on Friday.
