Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer has signed a contract extension, the club announced today. Length and terms of the contact are undisclosed.
Spicer, 32, served as the defensive team captain last season while leading the team with a career-high 7.5 sacks. The 10th-year veteran started 12 of his 15 games played in 2007 and started both postseason contests. The 6-4, 295-pound defensive end recorded 50 tackles (36 solo), three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
The Indianapolis native entered the league as an undrafted rookie out of Saginaw Valley State in 1998 and spent time with Seattle and Detroit as well as playing in the Canadian Football League before signing with the Jaguars in 2000. He has played in 99 games in Jacksonville with 53 starts. He ranks fourth in team history with 25 sacks and has 299 tackles, six forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
The Jaguars will report to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for the start of training camp on Friday, July 25.
