The Jaguars earned a seven-point win today, their sixth consecutive game decided by seven points or less. The Jaguars are the only team in the NFL to have every game this season decided by seven points or less.
GARRARD IMPROVES TO 22-14 AS A STARTER, 9-6 ON THE ROAD
David Garrard improved to 22-14 as a starter, 9-6 on the road, 16-14 against AFC opponents, 4-2 in October and 2-0 against Denver.
GARRARD PUTS UP SEASON-HIGH NUMBERS
QB David Garrard completed 25 of 34 passes for 276 yards with one touchdown for a 107.0 rating. Garrard’s 25 completions were the second-most of his career (26, 12/11/05 vs. Indianapolis) and the 276 yards were the third-most of his career. It marked Garrard’s 17th career 100-plus rating game, his 15th as a starter. He has thrown a touchdown pass in 10 of the last 12 games.
JONES-DREW CARRIES THE LOAD WITH TAYLOR OUT; RECORDS 7TH CAREER 100-YARD GAME
Maurice Jones-Drew had a season-high 125 yards on 22 carries, his seventh career 100-yard rushing game and second this season. The seven 100-yard rushing games rank second in franchise history behind Fred Taylor (48) and Jones-Drew equaled his total of 100-yard rushing games in 2007 with two. The 22 carries were the second-most of his career (25, 12-17-06 at Tennessee) and the 125 rushing yards tied for the third-most of his career. In addition, he became only the fourth player in franchise history with 3,000 career yards from scrimmage and he also surpassed 2,000 career rushing yards.
MAURICE JONES-DREW FINISHES WITH TWO TOUCHDOWNS
Maurice Jones-Drew scored his 30th and 31st career touchdowns on a one-yard run in the second quarter and a 46-yard scamper in the third quarter, his fifth career game with multiple touchdowns. Jones-Drew surpassed Keenan McCardell (30) in fourth place for most career touchdowns in team history. Jones-Drew has 27 career rushing touchdowns and has a touchdown in four of the last five games. All 31 of his touchdowns have come in the last 35 games. In addition, he has six touchdowns in the last seven road games and 14 touchdowns in the last 15 games against AFC opponents.
JONES-DREW RECORDS FOURTH-LONGEST TD RUN OF HIS CAREER
Jones-Drew scored on a 46-yard touchdown run on the club’s opening possession of the third quarter. The 46-yard run was the fourth-longest touchdown run of his career and his first run of 20-plus yards this season.
MARCEDES LEWIS HAS TOUCHDOWN RECEPTION IN SECOND CONSECUTIVE GAME
Tight end Marcedes Lewis finished with three receptions for a career-high 64 yards with a 30-yard touchdown reception from David Garrard, the longest touchdown reception by a Jaguar this season and longest in Lewis’ career. Lewis has a touchdown reception in back-to-back games as he hauled in a 24-yard reception for a score last week against Pittsburgh.
MATT JONES LEADS TEAM WITH SEVEN RECEPTIONS FOR 69 YARDS
Wide receiver Matt Jones finished with seven receptions for 69 yards, the second-most receptions of his career. Jones surpassed his receiving totals from 2007 (24 rec., 317 yards). Jones has a team-high 30 receptions for 338 yards through six games. Jones has five-plus receptions in five of the first six games.
JAGUARS RECOVER TWO DENVER FUMBLES; FIRST TIME SINCE LAST YEAR AT DENVER
The Jaguars recovered two fumbles today, the first time since 9/23/07 at Denver the Jaguars have accomplished the feat. Defensive end Reggie Hayward forced a fumble on Denver quarterback Jay Cutler in the first quarter and Rashean Mathis recovered. Hayward, who played from 2001-04 with the Broncos, has seven career forced fumbles. It was Mathis’ third career fumble recovery. In the second quarter, Drayton Florence forced a fumble on Brandon Marshall and recovered it.
GERALD SENSABUGH RECORDS SECOND INTERCEPTION OF THE SEASON; FOURTH OF CAREER
Fourth-year safety Gerald Sensabaugh recorded his second interception of the season in the first quarter on a pass intended for Brandon Marshall. Sensabaugh has four career interceptions including one in the season-opener at Tennessee. He has started the last three games for injured Reggie Nelson.
JOSH SCOBEE STAYS HOT
Josh Scobee connected from 48 yards in the first quarter. Scobee has been successful on his last 11 field goal attempts since misfiring from 37 yards at Tennessee in the season-opener.
ROB MEIER MISSES FIRST GAME SINCE 2004
Defensive tackle Rob Meier was inactive today with a knee injury, his first missed game since December 5, 2004 at Pittsburgh. Meier has played in 128 games with 39 starts since joining the club as a seventh round draft pick in 2000.
