Matt Jones’ season is over. The NFL announced on Tuesday that Jones has been suspended without pay for the final three games of the 2008 season, for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
The fourth-year wide receiver leads the Jaguars with 65 pass receptions for 761 yards and two touchdowns. He is 16th in the NFL in receptions and 29th in yards receiving.
Jones was arrested in Fayetteville, Ark., on July 10 for possession of a controlled substance, a felony charge according to Arkansas law. He pled not guilty and prosecution allowed him to enter a drug treatment program that can erase the felony drug charge. According to the agreement, he must participate in NFL-sponsored substance abuse counseling and submit to random drug testing. He must return to Fayetteville in the offseason to complete the intervention program, which also includes 30 hours of community service.
