The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed third-year defensive back Michael Coe from the New York Giants practice squad to their active roster, and added first-year running back Allen Patrick to the practice squad.
Coe, 6-0, 190, was originally a fifth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2007. The 25-year-old Coe played in six games as a rookie, finishing with seven tackles, one fumble recovery and five special teams tackles. He blocked a punt for a safety on December 9, 2007 at Baltimore. He spent the 2008 season on injured reserve and was waived/injured by the Colts on August 30, 2009. He was signed by the Giants on September 12 and spent weeks two through 11 on the club’s practice squad.
A native of Memphis, Tenn., Coe started two seasons at Arkansas before transferring to Alabama State as a senior to play for his father, Charles. He finished his collegiate career with 100 tackles, 26 passes defensed, seven interceptions, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He attended Cordova High School in Memphis and was named the Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior.
Patrick, 6-1, 200, was a seventh-round draft choice of the Baltimore Ravens in 2008 and also spent time with the Cleveland Browns as a rookie. He was signed by the Giants on May 11 and spent the preseason with the club before being waived on September 9, spending a week on the club’s practice squad.
Patrick began his collegiate career at Independence College in Kansas as a safety before transferring to Oklahoma. In 2006, he was thrust into the starting lineup with an injury to Adrian Peterson and rushed for 761 yards and four touchdowns for the Sooners. As a senior, he finished with 1,009 rushing yards on 173 carries with eight touchdowns. He played running back, defensive back and served as returner at Conway High School in South Carolina. He finished with 105 tackles, four sacks and seven rushing touchdowns as a senior.
