Jaguars linebacker Justin Durant was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after recording eight tackles, one sack, one interception and two quarterback pressures last Sunday against the Houston Texans.
Durant intercepted Matt Schaub in the third quarter and returned the ball 27 yards to help set up a Jaguars score, marking his second career interception. The defense registered a season-high three interceptions against the Texans and has seven in the last four games. He recorded his second career sack in the third quarter.
Durant ranks second on the team with 99 tackles along with three tackles for loss and one forced fumble despite playing in only nine of the first 12 games. The third-year pro has started 29 of 36 games since joining the club as a second-round pick in the 2007 draft. He finished with a career-high 113 tackles in 2008 along with a team-high seven tackles for loss.
