Biography

In his fifth season with the club, Mike Rutenberg was named defensive assistant for the Jaguars on January 22, 2016 after serving as the team’s assistant defensive backs coach since February 7, 2013.

In his fifth season with the club, Mike Rutenberg was named defensive assistant for the Jaguars on January 22, 2016 after serving as the team’s assistant defensive backs coach since February 7, 2013.
 
In his current role, Rutenberg assists Defensive Coordinator Todd Wash and works with the team’s linebackers on a day-to-day basis.
 
Prior to joining the Jaguars in 2013, Rutenberg served as defensive backs coach at New Mexico State and added the responsibility of pass game coordinator. In 2011, he guided the group to nine interceptions and 32 passes defensed. Prior to joining the New Mexico State staff, Rutenberg spent three years (2006-08) at UCLA where he was the Bruins’ defensive intern and graduate assistant.
 
Rutenberg served as the assistant to Washington Redskins Head Coach Joe Gibbs from 2004-05. He served as a player personnel intern and assistant in 2003 for the Redskins.
 
Rutenberg, born Oct. 29, 1981, received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell in 2003. He and his wife, Stacey, reside in Jacksonville.
