Cecil Shorts III partners with the United Way

Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III is partnering with the United Way of Northeast Florida as he challenges local businesses to help him collect school supplies to give to local students. 20 local companies including Vistakon, Citi and EverBank have joined Shorts by using their stores as drop points for book bags and supplies to stuff into the bags.

On Friday, Aug. 15, Shorts invited a number of students to EverBank Field to pick up bags full of supplies.  The rest of the supplies will be delivered to a number of local community centers and after-school programs before the start of school. Shorts understands that if anyone in any profession wants to be successful they need the proper tools to aid them and that works the same for students.

"I believe that the key to success is learning and giving these students the basic tools they will need to learn in the classroom," Shorts said. The school supplies challenge is just one of many community driven efforts Shorts has planned with the United Way this season.
