Jaguars defensive back Kiwaukee Thomas is teaming up with local law enforcement agencies to promote the use of seat belts as part of Buckle Up Florida's Click It or Ticket campaign, which kicked off today with a press conference held outside ALLTEL Stadium. The safety belt enforcement wave will continue through June 6. During this time, there will be zero tolerance for drivers who don't buckle up.
Thomas, who had been involved with the Precious Cargo event, which promotes proper installation and use of child safety restraints, is eager to get the word out on the benefits of using your seat belts each and every time you get in your vehicle.
"Tomorrow is promised to no one," stated Thomas. "Not only is it important to make sure our children are buckled up properly in our cars, but it's even more important that we protect ourselves to so we can be there for our children and families. Seat belts save lives, it's that simple," he added.
Thomas was joined by Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford and stressed the zero tolerance approach for those who choose not to buckle up. Law enforcement representatives from surrounding counties were present along with Shands Hospital's TraumaOne helicopter which flew in and landed in the parking lot of ALLTEL Stadium prior to the start of the press conference.
Click It or Ticket is part of an ongoing national initiative to increase safety belt use and save lives, and is a partnership between law enforcement, state highway safety offices and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
