The Jaguars are out of the playoffs, but in terms of the fantasy football world, the 2015 regular-season finale has plenty of meaning.
That may be particularly true of quarterback Blake Bortles.
Bortles, who has posted eye-popping statistics in his second NFL season, isn't generally considered a great FanDuel play in Week 17. That's because the Jaguars' opponent this week, the Houston Texans, features one of the league's better fantasy defenses.
But Bortles' 4,189 yards and 35 touchdowns through 15 games have made him a bonafide FanDuel "gem," and a standout showing against a very good defense in the regular-season finale could elevate his fantasy status entering the 2016 season.
Can Bortles become a reliable enough fantasy player to start against elite defenses next season? Many fantasy players may watch Sunday to find out.
The Texans are the NFL's third-ranked defense overall and third against the pass. That's a significantly tougher matchup than Bortles faced this past week when he passed for 368 yards and four touchdowns against a New Orleans Saints defense that has struggled against the pass this season.
Bortles ($8,100, 21.8 FFPG) passed for 331 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions in a Week 6 loss to the Texans in Jacksonville.
A look at the Jaguars' other top Week 17 FanDuel plays:
WR Allen Robinson ($8,500) – Robinson (21.8 FFPG) has emerged as one of the NFL's top receivers this season, and his FanDuel production has followed suit. Robinson not only has been productive, he has been remarkably consistent – scoring a touchdown in each of the past five games and six in the past four. He has 75 receptions for 1,292 yards and 14 touchdowns this season.
WR Allen Hurns ($7,300) — Hurns (13.6 FFPG) registered eight receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns against New Orleans, putting him past the fantasy receiver "holy grail." He has five 100-yard games this season.
TE Julius Thomas ($6,500) — Thomas (8.8 FFPG) struggled in terms of fantasy production against the Saints, catching two passes for 12 yards – his worst game of the second half of the season. His second-half surge, which included a streak of touchdowns in four consecutive games, sets him up to be a popular FanDuel choice in 2016.
RB Denard Robinson ($6,400) — Many targeted Robinson (4.9 FFPG) as a potential productive FanDuel back when starter T.J. Yeldon sustained a knee injury against Colts in Week 14. But Robinson has struggled with ball security and has rushed for 61 yards in two games as a starter.
Other notable Jaguars Fanduel prices for NFL Week 17:
K Jason Myers ($4,600)
RB T.J. Yeldon ($6,300)
WR Marqise Lee ($5,000)
Jaguars defense ($4,200)
