JACKSONVILLE – Toby Gerhart wasn't healthy enough for the opener after all.
That's a blow for the Jaguars' short-yardage running game, and it was news that came at the same time the Jaguars officially announced they also will be without wide receiver Marqise Lee for the regular-season opener.
Gerhart, the Jaguars' short-yardage running back, was among seven game-day inactives for the Jaguars announced an hour and a half before kickoff of the team's game against the Carolina Panthers at EverBank Field Sunday. He missed practice Thursday with an abdomen injury.
Lee, a second-year wide receiver who missed all but three days of practice since the beginning of training camp with a hamstring injury, also was a game-day inactive.
Defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks (knee), tight end Julius Thomas (hand) and defensive end Andre Branch (knee) also were ruled inactive, as were guard A.J. Cann and center Luke Bowanko. Marks, Thomas and Branch were ruled out Friday with Cann and Bowanko the team's line "healthy scratches."
Tyson Alualu is expected to start at three-technique tackle for Marks, with Clay Harbor moving to Thomas' move tight-end position and Chris Clemons starting at Leo with Branch out. …
