In and out: Forty Jaguars players held out of preseason finale

JACKSONVILLE – The list was expectedly long.

Quarterback Nick Foles and nearly every other offensive and defensive starter were among 40 players the Jaguars announced as not playing in the 2019 preseason finale against the Atlanta Falcons at TIAA Bank Field Thursday.

This is the third time in four games this preseason Head Coach Doug Marrone held out a large number of players to prevent injury and prepare for the regular-season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, September 8.

The Jaguars held 30 players out of the preseason opener against Baltimore and held 27 players out of a Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The starters/front-line defense and offense played four series each in a loss at Miami last Thursday.

Offensive players held out Thursday:

Foles; running backs Alfred Blue and Leonard Fournette; wide receivers Terrelle Pryor, Marqise Lee, Dede Westbrook, DJ Chark Jr., Chris Conley and Keelan Cole; offensive guards A.J. Cann, Andrew Norwell and Will Richardson Jr.; right tackle Jawaan Taylor; left tackle Cam Robinson, offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi; center Brandon Linder; center/guard Tyler Shatley; and tight ends James O'Shaughnessy, Josh Oliver, Ben Koyack and Geoff Swain.

Defensive players held out Thursday:

Defensive ends Josh Allen, Yannick Ngakoue, Dawuane Smoot, Lerentee McCray and Calais Campbell; defensive tackles Marcell Dareus and Abry Jones; linebackers Myles Jack, Najee Goode, Quincy Williams, Jake Ryan and Davis Tull; cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey, A.J. Bouye, D.J. Hayden and Tre Herndon; and safeties Cody Davis, Ronnie Harrison and Jarrod Wilson.
