The Jacksonville Jaguars signed second-year kicker Brandon Coutu to a contract, the club announced today. Rookie free agent cornerback Dontrell Johnson was waived from the roster.
Coutu, 5-11, 194, was a seventh-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2008 and made the 53-man roster as a rookie but was inactive for all 16 games. He was released prior to training camp in 2009 and did not play football in 2009 or 2010. Coutu spent time with Seattle, Jacksonville and Buffalo in 2011. He was on the Jaguars' practice for a week in December before being signed to the Bills' 53-man roster on Dec. 28 and seeing action in the season finale.
A native of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Coutu played in 43 games at Georgia and was successful on 51 of 64 field goal attempts. He was an All-SEC honorable mention selection as a senior. Coutu attended Collins Hill High School where he was a first-team all-state selection. He will wear jersey number 2.
