The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed wide receiver Matthew Hatchette to a contract. He participated in this morning's second-to-last day of the veteran camp which ends tomorrow.
Hatchette, 29, is an six-year veteran and former seventh-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings who has caught 45 passes for 684 yards (15.2-yard average) and four touchdowns during his career. He has played in 59 games, making three starts. Last season, Hatchette signed with Oakland Raiders but was released after training camp. The 6-3, 200-pound Hatchette spent his first four seasons in Minnesota before spending one season with the New York Jets in 2001.
Hatchette spent the 2003 offseason in NFL Europe playing for the Amsterdam Admirals. He led the league in all receiving categories with 61 catches for 790 yards and seven touchdowns. He added a 101-yard punt return for a score on his only return. He was the 235th overall choice in the 1997 draft out of Langston, where he was the school's second-leading receiver and an NAIA All-America selection.
The Jaguars' roster stands at 90 players.
