Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey has added Greg Olson and Tony Oden to his staff, bringing to 10 the number of assistant coaches now under contract. Olson is the assistant head coach/ quarterbacks coach, and Oden is the secondary coach.
Olson is in his 11th season in the NFL and his seventh as an offensive coordinator. For the past three years he was the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Olson was the quarterbacks coach when he joined the Buccaneers in 2008 and he worked closely with quarterback Josh Freeman throughout his time there. He also served as offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions in 2005 and St. Louis Rams in 2006-07.
Olson, 48, has 25 years of coaching experience including 15 in college and 10 in the NFL. Among the quarterbacks he has tutored in his career are Freeman in Tampa Bay, Marc Bulger in St. Louis, Jeff Garcia in San Francisco, and Drew Brees at Purdue.
Oden, 38, spent the past six seasons with the New Orleans Saints and the two previous years on the staff of the Houston Texans. A 16-year coaching veteran, Oden entered the NFL in 2004 with the Texans.
Oden began his coaching career at Millersville (Pa.) University in 1996, and he spent eight seasons coaching at the college level. Before joining the NFL he served on the coaching staffs at Boston College (1997), Army (1998-99), East Carolina (2000-02) and Eastern Michigan (2003).
