The Jacksonville Jaguars went through two practices today at Ferrell Fields, five days before their 1998 preseason opener.

The Jaguars play their first preseason game Saturday at the Carolina Panthers, but head coach Tom Coughlin said the emphasis this week will be on training camp. "We don't prepare for the first preseason game. We have our training camp schedule and objectives. We will introduce a little in the last two practices (of the week), but basically for the first preseason game we utilize what we've prepared in camp. It's basic. The major objective is putting the personnel in situations where they have to perform and not making it very complicated."

On Monday, the team concentrated on the running game, play action and red zone offense.

On the sidelines were: DT Kelvin Pritchett (hyperextended elbow), C Michael Cheever (back), MLB Tom McManus (knee), DT Jose White (hamstring), RB Chris Parker (knee), CB Deon Figures (ankle), TE Damon Jones (back) and FB Jason Lawson (quadriceps). Two players returned to practice after missing several sessions: DT Don Davey (knee) and CB Ron Harrison (hamstring).

The Jaguars will continue two-a-days on Tuesday, with practices scheduled for 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. One practice is scheduled for Wednesday morning. Practices are still open to the public through Monday, August 17, which will be the final day of two-a-day practice sessions. There is no admission charge for training camp. Parking is available on the East side of the stadium. Fans may call the Jaguars Fans Training Camp Hotline for a recorded message which gives the daily practice schedule. The phone number is (904) 633-6525. The message will be updated daily.
