Jaguars Foundation donates $5,000 to DLC from Edgewood Bakery Saturday opening

The Jaguars Foundation has presented a check for $5,000 to DLC Nurse & Learn, an inclusion child care center for children of all abilities, as part of the official opening of Edgewood Bakery last Saturday. DLC provides an inclusion preschool environment for children with and without developmental delays where each child is taught at their own pace. Like Edgewood Bakery, DLC is located on the Westside but serves children all over Jacksonville and Northeast Florida.

Prior to Saturday's event, The Jaguars Foundation had committed to making the donation in an amount equal to the total sales for the day. The total sales figure was $4,855, which was rounded up to $5,000 for the donation.

The check was presented to DLC Executive Director Amy Buggle by Jaguars Foundation President Peter Racine. Gary Polletta, director of operations for Edgewood Bakery, participated in the presentation as well.

"Since 2003, the Jaguars Foundation has provided grant support to DLC Nurse & Learn, specifically so that working families can have the child care they need for their special needs children as well as safe recreational equipment at their unique inclusion childcare centers," Racine said in making the donation. "What better way to celebrate the new Edgewood Bakery than to provide support to their neighbor?"

"DLC is so excited to get this unexpected donation at the start of our summer camp," Buggle said in accepting the check. "The money will help to fund all of the students that require special care full-time over the summer months. We are grateful to the Jaguars Foundation and to all the wonderful people at the Edgewood Bakery. "

Edgewood Bakery, a Jacksonville institution since 1947, hosted its official opening celebration on June 13 following a complete renovation. Customers celebrated throughout the day, sampling Edgewood Bakery's newest creations at one of Jacksonville's most legendary and time-honored locales for great food and fellowship.

The Bakery has officially opened at its 1012 Edgewood Avenue location and is open for business on Mondays through Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bakery is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
