Jaguars honor the courage of children and families battling childhood cancer

The Jacksonville Jaguars have partnered with the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund as part of the team's efforts to raise awareness during the month of September which is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Jaguars Foundation President Peter Racine said, "Childhood cancer is the number one disease killer of America's children, according to the National Academy of Sciences. On behalf of the hundreds of local families dealing with childhood cancer right here on the First Coast, we are honored to partner with former Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin and his ongoing efforts to support these families."

Families of pediatric cancer patients attended the game against the Miami Dolphins as special guests of the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation in partnership with the Jaguars. Prior to the game, 140 patients and family members enjoyed a tailgate party hosted indoors at WJCT Studios. The group wore special edition Tom Coughlin Jay Fund #GoGold T-shirts in solidarity with those families tackling childhood cancer. The patients and families also got the chance to participate in the national anthem ceremony and were recognized on the field prior to kickoff in recognition of Childhood Cancer Awareness month.

Keli Coughlin, Executive Director of the Jay Fund, explained, "The children along with their parents and brothers and sisters were thrilled to be recognized on the field. Cancer affects the whole family and we thank the Jaguars for helping to raise awareness of the hundreds of local families dealing with childhood cancer every day."

Ms. Coughlin added, "Our purpose is to #BETHERE for families as their child battles the unthinkable. Far too many families are faced with the financial side effects that often accompany a diagnosis of pediatric cancer. If we are able to raise awareness and create some positive memories for these kids and their families, our mission is complete for the day."

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation is joining with the national #GOGOLD campaign to raise awareness of this devastating disease. Coach Coughlin is asking individuals and communities to take his pledge to #BETHERE for families tackling childhood cancer in an effort to help increase visibility of the financial and emotional toll cancer takes on families, and to ensure that the Jay Fund will continue to #BETHERE so that no one fights alone. Coach Coughlin will be wearing his #GOGOLD pin to recognize the month.

The Jaguars Foundation supports the Jay Fund through grants, event sponsorships and provides complimentary tickets for families to attend each home game.
