Jaguars make roster moves

The Jacksonville Jaguars today signed veteran linebackers Tony Gilbert (pictured) and Kris Griffin and also added second-year defensive tackle Leger Douzable.   The club waived wide receiver Nate Hughes, safety Terrell Whitehead and offensive lineman Andrew Crummey.

Gilbert, 6-0, 245, spent five seasons with the Jaguars from 2003-07 and played in 56 games.  He led the Jaguars in 2006 with a career-high 16 special teams tackles.  He spent the past two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons where he saw action in 12 games, primarily on special teams. A native of Macon, Ga., Gilbert was originally signed as a rookie free agent by Arizona in 2003 and was signed off the Cardinals practice squad by the Jaguars the same year.

Griffin, 6-3, 232, has played in 46 games with Kansas City and Cleveland since entering the league as an undrafted rookie in 2005.  Griffin has 42 career special teams tackles including a career-high 22 in 2006 with the Chiefs.  He had 14 special teams tackles in 2007 for the Browns in only 12 games.  He last played in the NFL in 2008 when he played in 10 games for the Browns.

Douzable, 6-4, 284, is a Tampa native and was a four-year letterman at Central Florida.  He was originally signed as an undrafted rookie by Minnesota in 2008 and has also spent time with the New York Giants, Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams.  He played in 12 games with one start for the Rams in 2009 and finished with 16 tackles and five tackles for loss.  His name is pronounced LEE-JHAY DOO-zub-ul.

Gilbert will wear jersey number 45, while Griffin will war 49 and Douzable 69. The Jaguars travel to Atlanta this evening for four practices against the Falcons on Monday and Tuesday.  The Jaguars open the 2010 preseason on Friday, August 13 at Philadelphia. The team's first home games is Saturday, August 21 against the Miami Dolphins.
