Jaguars make roster moves


The Jacksonville Jaguars today promoted rookie defensive end Ryan Davis from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and signed fifth-year wide receiver/return specialist Micheal Spurlock. First-year offensive lineman Daniel Baldridge and third-year defensive end Aaron Morganwere waived from the roster.

Davis, who played at Bethune-Cookman, was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Jaguars in May and spent the first four weeks of the season on the club's practice squad.  He will wear jersey number 59.

Spurlock, 5-11, 210, has played in 46 games with one start during stints with Arizona, Tampa Bay, San Francisco and San Diego.  His career totals include two kickoff returns for touchdowns, one punt return for a score and 23 receptions for 294 yards and two touchdowns.

The Indianola, Mississippi native was originally signed as an undrafted rookie by the Cardinals in 2006 and spent parts of five seasons (2007-11) with the Buccaneers.  He played in four games for the 49ers in 2009 and saw action in the first four games of the 2012 season with the Chargers.  Spurlock produced a career-high 17 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns in 2010 while also scoring on an 89-yard kickoff return.  He recorded a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in 2007 and returned a punt 77 yards for a score in 2009.

Spurlock played in 21 games at Mississippi where he saw action at quarterback and running back.  He started eight of 11 games as a senior and completed 142 of 267 passes for 1,709 yards and seven touchdowns.  Spurlock attended Gentry High School where he threw for a state-record 3,348 yards and 35 touchdowns as a senior.
