Payne, Lee, Flowers to active roster

JACKSONVILLE – A trio of late-season Jaguars roster moves included a quarterback.

Tanner Lee, a sixth-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft who spent the first 16 weeks of the regular season on the Jaguars' practice squad, was one of three players moved to the team's active roster Friday afternoon.

Donald Payne, a linebacker who spent the last eight weeks on injured reserve with a knee injury, was activated from the reserve list Friday. Lee and running back/fullback Dimitri Flowers were both signed to the active roster from the practice squad.

The Jaguars also on Friday placed kicker Josh Lambo (right groin) and right tackle Josh Wells (concussion) on injured reserve and waived linebacker Martrell Spaight. Those moves made room on the roster for the three activated players.

Payne (5-feet-11, 217), a second-year veteran who played collegiately at Stetson, appeared in the Jaguars' first seven games. He is the second and final Jaguars player this season to be "designated for return" from injured reserve, with the using the designation on Wells last week. Payne has 14 special teams tackles in 20 career games.

Flowers (6-2, 248), who played collegiately at Oklahoma from 2014-2017, signed with the New York Jets as a collegiate free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft. He was with the Jaguars' practice squad for one day in October before re-signing to the team's practice squad on December 18.

Flowers rushed for 151 yards and four touchdowns at Oklahoma and caught 54 passes for 886 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Lee (6-4, 220) spent two seasons at Tulane before transferring to Nebraska, where he started 12 games last season and completed 246 of 428 passes for 3,143 yards with 23 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Blake Bortles will start at quarterback for the Jaguars Sunday. Backup Cody Kessler sustained a shoulder injury against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday and was limited in all three of the teams practices this week.

Flowers' signing gives the Jaguars three healthy running backs entering the weekend: Flowers, Dave Williams and T.J. Yeldon. Starting running back Leonard Fournette was listed as doubtful on the team's Friday injury report with a foot/ankle injury and backup Carlos Hyde was listed as questionable with a knee injury.
