David Garrard's Hope for the Holidays program was launched in 2007 when David and Mary Garrard recognized local families in need of everyday household supplies. What began as a gift of Thanksgiving dinner for several local families has grown into a broader mission of also providing household goods to help families get through the holiday season. The Garrard family will purchase needed supplies and personally deliver them to families in need.
Families have been identified by Community Connections, a non-profit organization with a 99-year history in Jacksonville. The organization provides transitional housing and essential support services to help women, children and their families become self-sufficient, move away from public assistance and reach their full potential. They also provide after-school programs at 12 sites for more than 1,100 children each day.
The David Garrard Foundation supports programs that increase awareness, education and research of Crohn's Disease and Breast Cancer. The foundation also aims to strengthen families and family values with a particular focus on helping single-parent households.
