Jaguars, Saints Hold Two Practices

The Jaguars and New Orleans Saints held two practice sessions today at Ferrell Fields.

"It's good work," said Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin following the morning practice. "You're talking about what I call the most opportunistic defense in the league last year, a very good team, a tough physical team. We need to see how our players are going to play under pressure. This is a little bit more pressure than a normal day. Some of the young kids don't even know who the defensive line of the Saints is. So it's an interesting thing to watch unfold."

With two teams and more than 170 players spread over two fields, Coughlin said, "We had some good plays and they had some good plays. It was good physical play. Guys were flying around with the ball. I liked the speed. The tempo was good all day. It was good work."

Jaguars WR Keenan McCardell (groin) and RB Shyrone Stith (concussion) suffered minor injuries in the morning practice and were held out of the afternoon session. Also limited to one practice were: S Carnell Lake (hamstring), DE Larry Smith (groin), TE Damon Jones (knee), LB Hardy Nickerson (knee) and G/OT Zach Wiegert (knee). WR Jimmy Smith (abdomen) worked only in individual drills.

The Jaguars will be off on Saturday and will practice again at 3:20 p.m. Sunday inside ALLTEL Stadium. Coughlin will be available after the practice. Players will be available during their lunch period, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Radisson Riverwalk Hotel.
