Jaguars Sign Gattis

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie safety Josh Gattis to a contract today. Gattis was drafted with the Jaguars' second of three picks in the fifth round, and was one of 11 players selected by the Jaguars in the 2007 NFL Draft in April. He joins Brian Smith as the first two Jaguars draft picks to sign a contract.

Gattis, 23, was the 150th overall selection in the draft. The 6-1, 206-pounder started three of his four seasons at Wake Forest and was named All-America honorable mention as a senior. In 48 career games with 33 starts, he tallied 259 tackles (174 solo), 19 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries. He recorded 14 interceptions and returned two for touchdowns.

The team will conclude OTA (organized team activity) practices on June 12-14.
