Jaguars sign Gerberry, release Owens

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed first-year center Dan Gerberry to a contract and released veteran running back Montell Owens, the club announced today.

Gerberry, 6-3, 302, participated in the club's voluntary veteran minicamp in April on a tryout basis.  He spent parts of the last four seasons with the Detroit Lions after signing as a rookie free agent in 2009.  He was waived during final cuts in 2012 and was not on a roster.  The Youngstown, Ohio native was a four-year starter at Ball State where he started the final 50 games of his career and earned first-team All-MAC honors as a senior

Owens, a two-time Pro Bowler as a special teamer, played in 104 games with the Jaguars over the past seven seasons after earning a roster spot as a rookie free agent in 2006.  He owns the franchise record for career special teams tackles with 118.  His career totals include 56 rushes for 292 yards and three touchdowns along with 12 receptions for 132 yards.
