The Jacksonville Jaguars signed veteran offensive tackle Guy Whimper to a contract, the club announced today. Whimper was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next week. Length and terms of the contract are undisclosed.
Whimper has played in 51 games, with 16 starts in six seasons. He was originally a fourth-round draft pick of the New York Giants in 2006 and joined the Jaguars on November 2, 2010. He has played in 21 games for the Jaguars over the last two seasons.
Whimper started a career-high 15 games in 2011, including 14 at right tackle and one at left tackle. He was part of an offensive line that paved the way for Maurice Jones-Drew's record-breaking and NFL-best 1,606 rushing yards. The Jaguars ranked 12th in the NFL and sixth in the AFC with 123.1 rushing yards per game.
