The Jacksonville Jaguars held a morning practice session in shorts and an afternoon session in full pads as they prepare for their preseason opener at the Miami Dolphins Saturday night. The Jaguars did not practice at night for just the second time during camp, instead holding an afternoon session as is customary each Wednesday.
The Jaguars made two roster moves today, signing first-year free agent guard Shannon Snell and waiving wide receiver Felton Huggins, who had been signed as a rookie free agent out of Southeastern Louisiana. Snell, a 6-2, 310 pounder from Florida, was signed by the Denver Broncos as a undrafted rookie in 2004. He has also spent time with Minnesota and Dallas. He will wear jersey No. 60.
Head coach Jack Del Rio spoke about the separation of the players as the team continues the second week of training camp and heads towards their preseason opener at Miami this Saturday.
"It's that time in camp where people start to separate themselves," said Del Rio. "Everybody comes out excited the first week, the first couple days. And as you get into it now, the second week, not quite into games yet, this is the time when we start to see separation."
Camp will continue on Thursday with two practice sessions at 11:00 a.m. (special teams) and 7:15 p.m. (shells) on the practice fields at Alltel Stadium. The Jaguars will travel to Dolphin Stadium to take on the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, August 12 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised live in Jacksonville on WTEV-TV CBS 47, and on WOKV Radio (690) and WJGL Radio (96.9).
NOTE OF THE DAY: NOT ON OUR DEFENSE: The Jaguars defense allowed only 241 points in 2005 (15.1 avg.), which ranked tied for third in the NFL. The club allowed only four rushing touchdowns, the fewest in the NFL.
