The Jacksonville Jaguars signed rookie defensive back Trae Williams to a contract today. Williams was the 159th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft and one of the Jaguars' two fifth-round selections. He joins fellow fifth-round pick Thomas Williams and seventh-round pick Chauncey Washington as the three Jaguars draft picks to sign contracts. The team drafted five players overall and first-rounder Derrick Harvey and second-rounder Quentin Groves are the only remaining unsigned players.
Williams, 23, started 45 of his 49 career games at cornerback while at South Florida. The 5-10, 195-pound defensive back ranked second in school history with 16 career interceptions and holds the team records with 219 interception return yards and four interceptions returned for touchdowns. The Plant City, Fla. native registered 165 career tackles and one sack along with his 16 interceptions. He earned All-Big East Conference second-team honors in 2007.
The Jaguars players are scheduled to report to Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for the start of training camp on Friday, July 25.
